June 14, 2024 – UN – The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel has submitted its report to the UN General Assembly. It is damning for both parties.
The Commission, mandated by the UN Human Rights Council, delivered its first in-depth report on the war in Gaza, covering the period from October 7 to December 31, 2023. It concludes that Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups are responsible for serious violations, including war crimes: intentional attacks against civilians, willful killings, torture, inhumane treatment, seizure or destruction of property, outrages upon human dignity, and hostage-taking, including of children.
The report also establishes that Israeli authorities have committed war crimes such as the use of starvation as a method of warfare, targeted attacks against civilians and civilian objects, forced transfers, sexual violence, torture, arbitrary detention, and outrages upon personal dignity.
Furthermore, it is indicated that Israel has committed crimes against humanity, including the extermination of Palestinians and gender persecution, specifically targeting Palestinian men and boys. Israel is accused of deliberately disregarding the principles of distinction, proportionality, and precaution.
In total, the Commission submitted 7,000 pieces of evidence to the International Criminal Court. The data includes testimonies, satellite photographs, and medical reports.
