June 16, 2025 – National Council – Following the Council of States, the National Council rejected the Geneva Canton’s initiative requesting Switzerland to pay its contribution to UNRWA, by 199 votes to 67, with 4 abstentions.

After October 7, 2023, Switzerland had suspended its voluntary contribution (of 20 million francs) to UNRWA – United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East. The Canton of Geneva had requested the reinstatement of this contribution. But to no avail. Following the Council of States in March, the National Council also rejected this initiative.
